December Math Activities

· · · ·

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! One of my favorite things as a kid was all of the fun December activities that we did at school. I also know as a teacher that December can be a struggle! The kids are restless and excited for the holiday break, but we still have LOTS to accomplish. If you’re looking for a fun and creative way to keep your students engaged during this crazy time, look no further! Math Crafts to the rescue!

As a teacher, I love math crafts for many reasons. Fine motor skills are so important, and kids still need to cut and glue and practice spatial reasoning. I also love that I can give my students something fun that they enjoy while practicing math skills on their level. All of my math crafts include 16 differentiation options, and they make the perfect seasonal math bulletin board!

The 16 differentiation options include 2 levels of addition and subtraction facts to 18, 2 digit addition and subtraction without regrouping, 2 and 3 digit addition and subtraction with regrouping, 3 levels or multiplication, and 3 levels of division. You can also get the Bonus Differentiation Bundle (circles only) for even more options!

For my 1st and 2nd graders, I usually had 3 differentiation options available with each craft. Sometimes I would assign the level that I wanted them to complete, and sometimes I let the kids choose the level they wanted to work on. I’d say 90% choose exactly what they need. For those that choose something too easy, I encourage them to choose a different level and go for a challenge!

WINTER HOLIDAY MATH CRAFT OPTIONS

While I have math crafts for each month (August-July), I also have what I call “special edition” crafts for many of the months and holidays. Our winter math crafts are a teacher and student favorite during this time of year. From Santa and Mrs. Claus to reindeer, elves, and snowmen, we’ve got you covered!

My December Math Crafts are my best-selling resource and are part of my monthly math crafts product line. You can also find them in the Monthly Math Crafts BUNDLE and our December Holiday Math Crafts Bundle. This resource includes FOUR craft options (Christmas tree, dreidel, mitten, and wreath) and 16 differentiation options.

These Christmas Friends Math Crafts are brand new and sure to be a classroom favorite! Students can choose between Santa, Mrs. Claus, or an elf craft. The equations have holiday pictures as the background for students to color.

My Santa Math Crafts are another holiday fave. In this resource, students can “build” their own Santa by choosing the hat style and facial expression. It also includes the sixteen differentiation options and an editable version as well.

I love these Reindeer Math Crafts so much! Students build their reindeer and the equations are the lights that they string across the antlers. These always turn out super cute!

Another option are these Christmas Math Crafts. This resource includes 3 different holiday-themed crafts: a fireplace, Christmas lights, and Santa sliding down the chimney. These are unique in that each craft has different pieces for the equations.

MATH CRAFT BUYER FEEDBACK

  • I absolutely loved this resource. My students were so excited and motivated to make these. I hung the bats and pumpkins in my classroom and I received so many comments from parents during my conferences about how adorable they were! Thank you for making a quality, creative and academically appropriate resource, that allowed me to add a bit of whimsy and fun to my classroom, while meeting my curriculum standards!

  • These are some of my favorite math activities! I love being able to put my own math problems into the circles. They look great hanging up in the room or hall, they don’t take much time to complete and my students LOVE them!!! Thank you!!

  • I love these so much! My kiddos love crafts and this gives them a little more meat and makes it meaningful. It’s also great addition and subtraction practice for my kiddos. Thank you!!

  • It can be hard to find things that are cute but aren’t too easy or too complicated for upper grades, but this is PERFECT. You can differentiate seven ways to Sunday and it always turns out cute.

  • Love this resource. Well worth the money. I teach K-3 grade special ed. It was great to have 1 resource that would allow every one of my students to do the same task with different levels. Thanks!

  • Best thing I bought on Teachers Pay Teachers! The students love these! They aren’t huge artists but the coloring option, cutting and gluing is right up their ally. I use these are review which keeps kids motivated. I love the blank template which allows me to create more difficult problems.
